This one is different. I can feel it in my bones.
I have always wanted to write my own book. In one of my earliest memories, I can remember turning to my mother on the bus we rode home from school and saying: ‘When I grow up, I’m going to write and illustrate my own book.’
While my design skills have since fallen by the wayside, my skill as a writer has only grown with my career as a freelance copywriter and editor. Despite this, my dream to write a novel remains just that – a dream. At least, for now anyway.
I have started to write fiction books in the past, but have never completed them. If I am honest with myself, I was just never really emotionally attached to them. The ideas I had were often for contemporary books and while I sometimes enjoy a contemporary story (books, films and TV), my true passion lies in fantasy. Trouble was, I could never think of an idea for a fantasy book.
That was until one summer’s day, as I was unpacking my shopping, the book gods bestowed upon me an idea. An idea that I have been developing and plotting for the past two months.
Now, with NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) just right around the corner, I can’t think of a better time to begin telling this story I have rattling around in my head.
So, what is Project Black Flag?
Well, if it wasn’t already obvious – it’s a pirate adventure/fantasy!
At this stage, that is all I feel comfortable sharing about it. I’m sure you understand. However, the point of me announcing this project is to invite you along on this writing journey with me. Maybe you had an idea for a story burning a hole in your mind for some time. Or, perhaps, like me, you have been waiting for inspiration to strike.
Whatever reason you may have for not writing your book, I am here to tell you: You can do this.
If like me, you are participating in NaNoWriMo 2018, add me as a writing buddy and we can help motivate each other to get those first drafts completed.
What stories are you currently working on?
